Ron received a Bachelor of Music, Distinction in Trombone, at McGill University. Ron furthered his studies in jazz under the tutelage of Jim Howard, with whom he studied harmony and arranging. He has been a conductor and lecturer in the Faculty of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University since 1989 conducting the jazz ensemble there as well as teaching several jazz courses. In 2002 Ron began his tenure as co-Artist Director of the Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival.
Ron can be heard in a plethora of groups and performs at various venues including Toronto’s DuMaurier Downtown Jazz Festival, the Ottawa International Jazz Festival, British Virgin Islands Music Fest, Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival, The Kitchener Blues Festival, Elora Festival, London Jazz Festival, Festival By the Bay (Sarnia), The Huron Country Playhouse, NUMUS and Laurier’s Music at Noon.
Ron has performed with the K-W Symphony, Orchestra London and K-W Gilbert & Sullivan Society as well as the Bremer Staatsorchester, Hamburger Staatsorchester and is a member of the K-W Musical Productions Orchestra. He performs regularly in clubs and concerts throughout southern Ontario and elsewhere with many groups including The Drifters, The King Street Trio, Cosmic Ray & The Escape Pods Jazz Orchestra, The John Bond Big Band, Herenzia Latina, The Canadian Modenaires and Gravity. Ron also has many playing credits for television, radio and albums.
