We understand that circumstances may prevent you from enrolling for the term specified in your offer of admission. In such cases, a deferral of admission may be granted to you.

How Deferrals Work

Deferrals of one year may be granted to students attending Laurier for the first time. Please note that deferrals are not guaranteed. We will email you after the deferral deadline to inform you if your deferral request has been granted or denied.

If your request to defer is granted, you will receive an email from us the following year to request that you reconfirm your offer of admission by completing a readmission form.

Read through the following information, including the rules for deferring, and then complete the Deferral Checklist to submit your deferral request.

Deferral Checklist

  1. Confirm your offer of admission. Please see your official offer letter in your applicant portal for further details.
  2. Make sure you have read through and understand the rules for deferring.
  3. Submit the Offer of Admission Deferral Request form
  4. Pay the non-refundable $60 administrative fee for the processing of your deferral request.
  5. If you registered for courses for a term from which you are deferring, you must drop them in LORIS.

You will receive an email from us the following year to request that you reconfirm your offer of admission by completing a readmission form.

Re-Admission Checklist for Students Who Deferred

If you deferred your offer of admission in 2023 and are now looking to start your degree at Laurier in Sept. 2024, you will need to reconfirm your offer so that we know you still plan on joining us this fall.

  1. In early March, you will receive an email from our Admissions team with a link to the Readmission Form for Deferred Students (allowing you to register to begin your studies in Sept. 2024). You will have approximately one month to submit the form.
  2. If you wish to live in residence beginning in a fall term, apply for residence and submit the non-refundable deposit by the June deadline of the academic year you will start studying. For all other terms, contact housing@wlu.ca to inquire about space availability.
