Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

For Immediate Release

Waterloo – The Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises at Wilfrid Laurier University announced a partnership with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR), the premier legal advisor to technology, life sciences, and other growth enterprises worldwide. WSGR will be the exclusive United States legal services sponsor for the Lazaridis Institute.

The mandate of the Lazaridis Institute is to support Canadian technology companies with the tools, knowledge and networks to scale rapidly into globally competitive enterprises. Companies in the institute’s Scale-Up Program have the opportunity to work in real time with global experts, like the technology advisors at WSGR, to discuss the issues they are facing.

“This relationship will provide companies in the Scale-Up Program with access to some of the best legal support in Silicon Valley,” said Kim Morouney, managing director of the Lazaridis Institute and professor of Executive Development in the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Laurier. “Top-quality U.S. legal advice is critical to making the right decisions for growth.”

“When we met them in California earlier this year, we were so impressed with the talent and promise of the Lazaridis Scale-Up Program companies we quickly inquired about formalizing an affiliation,” said Jason Skolnik, partner with WSGR. “We look forward to supporting innovative Canadian tech companies through our legal advice, our networks, and our industry knowledge.”

Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati has been in Silicon Valley for more than 50 years and helped to lay the foundations of innovation in the area. The firm has played a significant leadership role by representing venture-backed companies, through counselling thousands of entrepreneurs starting new businesses, and from advising on company formation, equity structures, intellectual property rights, and other critical issues.

The Lazaridis Institute is currently recruiting the next 10 most promising tech companies in Canada for its Scale-Up Program. Now in its third year, the program is designed to help founders of tech companies overcome the challenges they face as they scale their businesses for global competition.

The program addresses constraints to growth with a customized approach, heavily oriented toward execution. After just one year, 100 per cent of the first cohort of 10 companies reported increased revenues; 90 per cent had launched a new product or service, increased exports, and received external financing. Applications close July 27. Visit the website for more information and to register.
