Brantford – More than 500 students will graduate during Wilfrid Laurier University’s spring convocation ceremonies in Brantford, taking place June 4 and 5 at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts.

As of May 30, 511 undergraduate students, two graduate students and four students in diploma programs were qualified to graduate at Laurier’s Brantford campus.

This convocation period will be one of firsts and lasts at Laurier’s Brantford campus. The first cohorts of Laurier’s Bachelor of Fine and Applied Arts in Game Design and Development, online Honours BA in Policing and the graduate diploma in Public Safety will graduate, while students in the last graduating class of the Concurrent Education program, which was jointly offered by Nipissing University and Laurier, will receive their degrees.

Each spring, Laurier marks the Brantford campus convocation with a ceremonial procession through its downtown. Before each ceremony, graduates, faculty and staff – including the chancellor and the university’s president and vice-chancellor – parade through the community’s core, accompanied by a bagpiper.

Convocation ceremonies will also be held on Laurier’s Waterloo campus from June 10 to 14, when honorary degrees will be presented to three accomplished Canadians: Sandra Horst, chorus master with the Canadian Opera Company; Mary Lou Morgan, entrepreneur and food security advocate; and Samantha Nutt, humanitarian and medical doctor.

In Waterloo and Brantford combined, Laurier expects to confer 2,445 undergraduate degrees, 302 graduate degrees and 148 diplomas as part of spring convocation.
