Make the most out of your university career by taking advantage of all that Laurier has to offer you. Volunteer work, campus clubs, leadership programs, studying abroad, work experience – there are so many ways you can extend your classroom experience into the real world.

Here are just a few examples of the experiences you’ll get in the Health Management program:

  • Complete a co-op or field placement as part of the Conestoga graduate certificate program in Human Resources Management or Management in Community Services.
  • Join the Health Studies Student Association and plan events for you and other students.
  • Take the health-care practicum course allowing you to pursue your specific interests in health administration, while earning course credit.
  • Thinking about graduate school? Participate in the Academic, Creative and Engaged Research Showcase (ACERS) to share your academic work with the public and Laurier community.

Program Details

What is Health Management?

Technological advances can prolong life, but they aren’t available to everyone. We have healthcare systems that offer treatments when we get sick, but why do we fall ill in the first place? And why do only some people use the health care system when they are sick?

The Health Management program provides you with a broad understanding of the diverse factors affecting the provision, management and utilization of health care, both domestically and internationally.

You'll take a blend of health studies, leadership, and management courses to provide you with an overview of the factors influencing health and illness and an understanding of Canadian healthcare systems.

Graduates of the program will be prepared for important non-clinical roles in the healthcare sector across Canada.

Earn a Degree and Certificate in Only Four Years

Combine theory and practice! You'll have the opportunity to specialize in either Human Resources Management or Management in Community Services through an integrated graduate certificate program through Conestoga College. You’ll earn both your degree from Laurier and your graduate certificate from Conestoga at the Brantford campus, all in only four years. (Normally, it would take you five to complete both.)

The combination of theory and practice will allow you to develop a greater understanding of the systems currently in place, the changes the systems may undergo to meet the growing demand for services, and how to operate successfully within the healthcare setting.

Community Service-Learning

Community Service-Learning (CSL) courses at Laurier integrate service in the community with what you are learning in your classes. Placements are approximately 10 weeks and take place on a weekly basis from the second week of classes to the final week, typically for two hours per week.

CSL placements consist of volunteering at a local community service, such as a soup kitchen or a children's treatment centre. It’s a great way to apply classroom knowledge and gain practical experience in your field of study. Build your resume, develop your network, and graduate with experience.
