Interim Senior Executive Officer of the Brantford Campus
As interim senior executive officer, Beth Gurney represents the office of the university’s president at Laurier’s Brantford campus. She works to create strategic opportunities that advance Laurier’s academic mission, build relationships with campus partners and stakeholders, and support academic and administrative leaders. Gurney is also the director of strategic communications and community engagement at the Brantford campus.
Gurney joined Laurier in 2015 as the associate director of communications and public affairs on the Brantford campus. In 2021, she was promoted to director, strategic communications and community engagement. During her time at Laurier, she has led Brantford campus communications and played a key role in community integrated initiatives including the Laurier Stedman Prize, launch of the Laurier Brantford YMCA, and the creation of the Campus Experience portfolio in the SEO office.
Gurney holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English and Theatre and a post-graduate certificate in Writing from the University of Western Ontario. She has previously worked at a boutique public relations, communications and advertising agency, and has held positions in municipal administration, community news, and is a published author.
An active volunteer in the community, Gurney has contributed her skills to several community organizations including the Brant United Way, Grand Valley Educational Society and Enterprise Brant. Through her affiliation with the Grand Valley Educational Society, she was named along with fellow members of the society to the Order of Wilfrid Laurier in 2019 in recognition of the society’s role in bringing a university campus to Brantford. Gurney is currently a member of the National Association of Branch Campus Administrators and presented at their 2023 conference.
