Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Before retiring from Laurier in 2017 I taught in the Department of Religion & Culture for 24 (glorious!) years. I now call Vancouver Island home, and continue to teach one Laurier online course (RE333, Food and Religion) that aligns with my ongoing research.
The main focus of my research is the role that food plays in people’s spiritual lives. I have conducted much of that research with my wife, Ellen Desjardins (a nutritionist and human geographer). Our fieldwork has taken us across Canada and to countries and communities around the world.
