Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

I received my MSc and PhD in Psychology from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University (U.S.A.). Prior to joining Laurier, I was a research associate and the director for research and system development at the Centre for Evaluation and Program Improvement in Nashville, TN (2006-2008).
I am currently a Professor of Community Psychology and Sustainability Science, the director of the Viessmann Centre for Engagement and Research in Sustainability (VERiS) and the director of the Community, Environment, and Justice Research Group at the Centre for Community Research, Learning, and Action (CCLRA).
I am the lead author for the book Community Psychology: In pursuit of liberation and wellbeing (3rd edition) recently published by Palgrave-MacMillan. I am also a fellow of the Society for Community Research and Action, Division 27 of the American Psychological Association.
The main focus of my research is the psychology of sustainability. I apply community and other psychology principles, theories and tools to address issues related to sustainability, including global climate change mitigation and resiliency, with a special focus on sustainability justice, cultures of sustainability, and youth engagement in environmental action. For details regarding current and past projects please see the website of VERiS.
I am interested in supervising students at different levels who are interested in community psychology and social justice and who want to use their studies to make this world a better place for all. Students with an interest in sustainability, environmental justice and/or youth engagement are especially encouraged to contact me.
