Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

I graduated from Sharif University of Technology (Tehran, Iran) with an Honours BSc degree in Applied Chemistry and continued my studies in Saga University (Saga, Japan), where I received my MSc (1992) and PhD (1995) degrees in Biological and Biophysical Chemistry.
After graduation, I worked as a lecturer in biochemistry in Saga University, pursued my research as a postdoctoral fellow in the University of Alberta, and taught organic chemistry and biochemistry at Brandon University as an assistant professor.
I joined Laurier in July 2001 as an assistant professor.
My research interests are concentrated on 2 main areas:
A combination of chemical, biochemical and biophysical techniques such as peptide synthesis, recombinant protein expression, fluorescence and circular dichroism spectroscopy, isothermal titration calorimetry, and patch clamp are used for these studies.
Currently, I have research assistantship opportunities for graduate students interested in a deeper understanding of the molecular aspects of life processes, with focus on the structure and function of membrane proteins, as well as de novo design and mechanisms of biological activity of antimicrobial and antioxidant peptides.
