Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

My current research focuses mainly on explaining the factors that determine student academic outcomes. I have published work that measures the effect of school entry policy on short and long-term student achievement. Other recent work identifies the effect of school principals on student outcomes, whether school quality information shocks affect student mobility between schools, and whether longer exposure to kindergarten improves future achievement. I am also working on research that measures the effect of neighbourhood demographics on charitable donations, and the effect of taxes on smoking behaviour.
I am willing to supervise graduate students in the areas of education economics, labour economics and empirical microeconomics more generally.
