Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Wilfrid Laurier University will offer an $80,000 scholarship to support a refugee student in the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics starting this fall, thanks to a donation from Toronto investment professional Gary Grad and his wife Bettina Rentsch.
The financial award consists of $20,000 per year for four years for a female student pursuing undergraduate studies in business or economics who demonstrates financial need and is considered a protected person, or refugee, under Canadian government regulations.
“This is an incredibly generous gift that will result in a life-changing opportunity for a student to pursue her dreams of higher education at one of Canada’s most selective business schools,” said Micheál Kelly, dean of the Lazaridis School.
To apply, students must be entering first year in a full-time undergraduate academic program in the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics. Eligible candidates will be considered a protected person, or refugee, under Canadian government regulations at the time the offer of admission is made from the university and significant financial aid must be demonstrated. This award is renewable for up to three years of study after first year if the recipient continues to be registered in the same full-time program, meets academic progression requirements and continues to demonstrate financial need.
Students are able to apply for this award, and other first-year scholarships, by completing their first-year profile on LORIS under the Student Awards and Financial Aid tab. The deadline to apply for this award is July 31 at 11:59 p.m.
