Lot42 Global Flex Campus is a multi-purpose venue in Waterloo Region focused on bringing the right people together with the right ideas at the right time to ‘make things happen’. Reimagining an old steel manufacturing building, outfitting it with state of the art tech, and bringing together the arts, technology, manufacturing, athletics, and community, Lot42 is creating a space for all to come together to learn, grow and celebrate.

Cal shared with students the value of understanding the why behind the things we do - in both life and business. Some key takeaways from his inspiring presentation are:

• The value of collaboration: We can’t live in MyTown or TheirTown (defined by individual perspectives). Here in OurTown (Earth), we expand and grow by recognizing the diverse experiences of others around us.
• Sales and influence: Like it or not, we’re all in sales. We ask for and make recommendations with the goal of improving our influence.
• Goal setting starts with Why: The Golden Circle starts with WHY, then explores the how and the what. If you don’t have a sense of who you are, why you’re doing it, and a passion to get it done, you’ll spend your time living and building someone else’s dream.
  • Why starts in the limbic brain – where our feelings, trust, loyalty, behaviour & decision making happen.
  • How and what happen in the neocortex – where we experience rational and analytic thoughts, including language.
  • This concept is from the book "Start With Why" by Simon Sinek.
