The final day of the residency focused on tying it all together through design roadmapping. Dr. Beckman used fast food chains as examples demonstrating the value systems of a company impact on consumer behaviour and product success. By using the principles of the Innovation Cycle, they imagined how the value systems of their companies played into the products that they developed and what this might look like for their current employers.

After a week of imagining how to design their businesses for future success with their newly equipped design thinking toolkit, the cohort finished with an Odyssey Mapping exercise to design their next five years for growth. Had their career looked more like a quest of linear progression or was it more a quilt of different experiences patched together to place them where they were today? These were all important questions to begin asking about their own lives; if they were going to come back to Canada and if they were prepared to shape products and experiences that impact the journeys of others either on their teams or for their customers.

When asked about ‘what’s next?’, EMTM Learner Joe Rossi said “The program has challenged and stirred-up what I thought I knew and often find myself asking the tough questions I never thought to ask before."
