Brantford – Undergraduate research at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus will take centre stage during the annual Academic, Creative and Engaged Research Showcase (ACERS).

ACERS celebrates creative student projects across disciplines and highlights the importance of research in professional careers. The showcase provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to present their work in a variety of formats to peers within the Laurier community, as well as the general public.

“Undergraduate students produce fantastic research during their coursework that often only gets seen by their instructors,” says Tarah Brookfield, acting associate dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and this year’s ACERS undergraduate research coordinator. “ACERS is an opportunity to share their research more widely and celebrate their discoveries. This year’s submissions present new interpretations of science, popular culture, history and current affairs, and propose solutions to service gaps and injustices in the form of new technologies, policies and educational resources.”

More than 40 students have submitted their research or projects to this year’s competition in three categories: posters, podcasts and videos. Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 projects.

This year’s ACERS presentations and awards will be held via Zoom on March 11 beginning at 1 p.m. The community is invited to join in the virtual event, where the top five students will present their research and prizes will be announced. Registration is required.

The first-place finalist in each category will take home a $1,000 prize. New this year is an early researcher award, a prize presented to a student in their first or second year of studies. To view the 2022 projects and learn more, visit wlu.ca/ACERS.
