Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

I received my PhD in Geography (environmental management) from the University of Guelph in 2001 and my BA Honours Geography (minor in business administration) from the University of Guelph in 1996.
I have been a faculty member at the Laurier Brantford campus since 2002.
I am active board member for the Canadian Risk and Hazards Network and the co-chair of the Aboriginal Resilience sub-working group for the Canadian Roundtable for Disaster Risk Reduction.
My work focuses on resilience in rural and Indigenous spaces using transdisciplinary, community-based research approaches. I have research interests related to disasters, emergency management, agri-forestry (maple syrup), adaptation to climate change and nuclear waste. I have several ongoing, funded projects funded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and other sources.
