Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

We know that the cost of higher education continues to rise, and that’s why we have financial support for students through a variety of programs. There are many different resources beyond scholarships and bursaries that can help you pay for your education or help you manage your money.

Additional Sources of Funding

Part-Time Jobs

Many individuals work while they go to school. Laurier hires numerous students every year in almost all departments across our campuses.

Waterloo and Brantford are also thriving communities with healthy retail and service sectors. These are great areas for student employment, with plenty of opportunities close to campus.

Co-op

Our co-op program gives you the opportunity to gain work experience while earning a pay cheque, and most of our programs have co-op as an option.

Laurier Work-Study Program

Each year, the Laurier Work-Study Program provides students in financial need with part-time employment opportunities on campus.

Applications for the program are available early-September with an application deadline of mid-September. About 75 employment opportunities are available annually through this program. Students can earn up to $3,000 per year while gaining practical work experience on campus.

Financial Aid: Ontario Student Assistance Program

If you need help paying for your education, the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) may be able to help. OSAP is a government-funded program that can help you pay for your postsecondary education through grants and loans. Assistance is based on multiple factors, some of which include gross family income, size of family and overall student resources.

If you’re not from Ontario, check to see what financial aid opportunities are available in your province or territory.

OSAP applications are submitted online. More information on OSAP can be found on the OSAP website and the Student Awards office website.

OSAP applications normally take six to eight weeks to process from the time all required documents are submitted. Please ensure that you submit your application and all required supporting documentation as early as possible (we recommend by early-July) to ensure that funding will be available for release at the start of the fall term.

First-time applicants are required to submit a Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement (MSFAA) to a designated Canada Post outlet along with the required identification and banking information.

Students who have identified themselves as having a permanent disability on their OSAP application should follow up with the Accessible Learning Centre to ensure that they are considered for all appropriate available funding options. Connect with your disability consultant to learn about programs and next steps.

Important Notes

  • You are required to submit a new OSAP application each year.
  • You are encouraged to complete your OSAP application as early as possible to ensure your funding is available for release in September. OSAP applications submitted with all required documentation by early-July should have funding available for release at the start of term.
  • Regularly review your online OSAP account and your OSAP status in LORIS for updates on the processing of your OSAP application. Confirmation of enrolment with OSAP begins at the start of each term.
