Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Laurier offers a wide variety of engaging summer camp opportunities designed to develop leadership and teamwork skills through fun, interactive activities.

Your kids will think, move, connect, create, explore and learn with Laurier.

Ranging from sports and arts to science and music, providing day and overnight options, Laurier camps and youth programs offer memorable experiences to satisfy all interests and skill levels.

Arts Express

Laurier’s Music Therapy program has partnered with KidsAbility, Conestoga College’s Early Childhood Education program, the University of Waterloo and Carousel Dance Centre to provide an inclusive arts camp for children with special needs and their siblings and friends.

Athletics and Recreation

Laurier Waterloo has designed a variety of recreational camps that foster leadership through athletics. Basketball, hockey and soccer camps provide young athletes with an opportunity to improve their skills in a fun and challenging atmosphere. For those who love the water, we offer an action-packed aquatic junior lifeguard camp where campers will develop their swimming skills in an energetic learning environment.

Summer Fun 101

Laurier Brantford's Summer Fun 101 is eight one-week sessions offering instruction in a wide variety of educational and sport activities including; the mystical world of medieval times, arcade adventures and a super hero training camp. Participants will embark on elaborate day trips and attend a pizza party movie night  just a few of the reasons campers return year after year.

AquaSONG

Aquatic Science Outreach Network for the Grand (AquaSONG) is a pilot project to teach high school students about the Grand River, field sampling techniques and methods of analysis. Participants will collect water samples, observe samples using cutting edge laboratory equipment, and learn about data modelling and interpretation.

BrainWorx

Run through Laurier’s Psychology Department, BrainWorx is a summer camp that gives children aged six to nine the chance to participate in experimental and training studies. BrainWorx campers will learn through hands-on activities about how the brain works, how we learn language and how to master self-control while participating in fun outdoor activities such as swimming, climbing, dance, chess and crafts.

Golden Hawk Youth Programs

Golden Hawk Youth Programs aim to provide role models for youth in the community. Youth will attend a football, hockey or basketball game to watch and interact with varsity athletes; there is also an opportunity for participants to sing the national anthem at the opening ceremony of a Laurier Golden Hawk game.

Indigenous Storytelling and Filmmaking

The Summer Institute of Indigenous Storytelling and Filmmaking offers a one-week program for students to explore how to tell stories — both orally and visually through traditional storytelling and filmmaking practices. The Institute is aimed at Indigenous students in grades 7 and 8 who want a unique summer experience. Participants live in residence at Laurier, learn about storytelling and filmmaking, and participate in various physical and cultural activities in Waterloo Region.

Junior University Multidisciplinary Program (JUMP)

JUMP is a multidisciplinary, three-day residential experience at Laurier for grade 5, 6, 7 and 8 students. JUMP is hands-on, educational, informative and fun where students have the opportunity to learn about ancient artifacts in a dig site, new acting techniques, or how the brain works. They might play traditional and creative musical instruments, complete light and pressure experiments, or make ‘goo’ in science.

Laurier Enriched Academic Program (LEAP)

LEAP campers are gifted/highly able children and youth in grades 1-9 who are looking for a day camp experience that piques their curiosity and has a large “fun” quotient. LEAP camps focus on enrichment and challenge in a fun, interactive atmosphere. Our programs emphasize highly interactive, hands-on learning that taps into higher order thinking skills.

LAUNCH

LAUNCH is an accelerated, problem-based camp where participants will delve into an experiential study of conflict resolution. Campers will explore sources of conflict and learn about effective conflict resolution strategies. Participants will develop public speaking, writing, creative and critical thinking skills through hands-on activities related to identifying and effectively communicating different points of view between contentious parties.
